We are the largest veterinarian founded, owned, and led network of emergency and specialty hospitals and urgent cares. This distinction, maintained for nearly four decades, means we can relate to where you’ve been, understand what you aspire to become, and importantly, are well-equipped to help you succeed. It allows us to provide our House Officers and Emergency Clinician Mentees an immersive, deeply supportive, and enriching post-graduate education.

Emergency Clinician Mentorship Program

The Emergency Clinician Mentorship Program (ECMP) is an immersive training program that allows you to enhance your diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities, advance your clinical decision-making and technical skills, and hone your communication. At the center of the program is a mentor-mentee relationship that ensures individualized training and a smooth transition into independent emergency medicine practice.

ECMP Testimonials

“The Emergency Clinical Mentorship Program is a great testament to the commitment MedVet has in ensuring the next generation of veterinary emergency clinicians are well trained and supported in their future careers. During my time in the program, I enjoyed the dedicated mentorship and the positive work environment that MedVet fosters. Some of the program highlights include the organized structure, scheduled check-ins, and opportunities for continuing education.”

– Mikaela Disbennet, DVM

“My favorite part of my rotating internship was the staff! I graduated from my internship over a year ago, but I still maintain positive relationships with the mentors from my internship. Even though I don’t work at MedVet anymore, I keep in touch and hang out with a few of the support staff who have helped me since day one of my internship.”

– Audrey Marzan, DVM

“Internships are rigorous, demanding, and undeniably exhausting—it is truly a year-long sprint. Yet at WestVet, amid the challenges and steep learning curves, I found genuine joy in the people I worked with, the mentorship I received, and the meaningful relationships I built with staff. It truly speaks volumes about a program when emergency clinicians and specialists choose to return to the same hospital where they once trained.”

– Sarah Bayles, DVM

“If you have the flexibility in your clinical rotation schedule, try to do an externship (external rotation) at the hospitals where you may like to do an internship. To assess where you may be interested in interning, read lots of reviews about each internship program on the VIRMP website. In addition to the reviews, email the programs that seem intriguing and ask for current or previous interns email addresses. You can create a list of questions for them to answer that will give insight into the program and how it may meet your needs.”
