When Every Minute Counts: Practical Management of Canine Dystocia, Cesarean Section, and Neonatal Resuscitation
This live interactive medical program for veterinary professionals will focus on canine dystocia as a time-sensitive emergency requiring timely recognition, efficient decision-making, and coordinated management of both the dam and her neonates. This presentation reviews the diagnostic approach to dystocia, evidence-based medical management, anesthetic and surgical considerations for cesarean section, and practical neonatal resuscitation techniques applicable to general practice and emergency settings. Current literature, clinical algorithms, and case-based presentations will provide practical strategies to improve maternal and neonatal outcomes.
Learning Objectives
- Common causes of canine dystocia and when medical management is appropriate versus emergency cesarean section.
- Developing evidence-based anesthetic, surgical, and peri-operative management plans that optimize outcomes for both the dam and her litter.
- Structured neonatal assessment and advanced resuscitation techniques to improve neonatal survival.
