Shayna Sosnowik, DVM, Diplomate, ACVO, is a Board-certified Veterinary Ophthalmologist at MedVet Asheville.

Dr. Sosnowik attended Macaulay Honors College where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Neuroscience. She then earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University.

Upon completion of veterinary school, Dr. Sosnowik completed a rotating medicine and surgery internship at Long Island Veterinary Specialists in Plainview, NY followed by a specialty internship at MedVet Columbus. Dr. Sosnowik completed her residency in veterinary ophthalmology at MedVet Columbus and WestVet Boise.

Dr. Sosnowik is a published researcher in veterinary and comparative ophthalmology. Her research spans clinical outcomes, including a study on surgical outcomes following diode endoscopic cyclophotocoagulation in canine patients, as well as basic science investigations into the eye’s aqueous outflow pathway, published in journals such as Veterinary Ophthalmology, Cells, and Experimental Eye Research.

Dr. Sosnowik has a special interest in glaucoma. Her favorite parts of veterinary ophthalmology are developing relationships with patient and clients, and helping pets maintain vision and comfort.

When away from the hospital, Dr. Sosnowik enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, backpacking, and running.
