Sarah McMillan, DVM, MS, Diplomate, ACVIM (Oncology), is a Board-Certified Veterinary Oncologist at MedVet Northern Virginia, where she has been a part of the team since 2024.
Dr. McMillan earned her Bachelor of Science degree in animal science from Purdue University. She then received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine. Following her veterinary degree, Dr. McMillan completed a yearlong small animal rotating internship at Michigan Veterinary Specialists. She furthered her training by completing a residency in veterinary oncology at Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine, while also obtaining her Master of Science degree in comparative and veterinary oncology.
Dr. McMillan has a profound interest in all aspects of veterinary oncology, with a special focus on bladder cancer, electrochemotherapy, lymphoma, and novel cancer treatments. She has published several articles, including studies on bladder cancer in Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, urethral stenting for bladder tumors in Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, histiocytic sarcoma in Veterinary and Comparative Oncology, malignant melanoma in Veterinary and Comparative Oncology and The Canadian Veterinary Journal, and coauthored a book chapter on bladder cancer in the book Small Animal Oncology. One of her favorite aspects of practicing veterinary oncology is helping families understand their options so they can choose the best treatment path for their beloved pets. She takes great pleasure in providing families with the valuable extra time they can have with their companions.
Outside of her professional responsibilities, Dr. Sarah McMillan enjoys traveling, scuba diving, and spending time with her husband and cherished cats.
