Laurie is a licensed clinical Veterinary Social Worker with over 20 years of animal welfare and veterinary experience. Her animal and social work backgrounds create expertise in issues facing animals and the people who love them.
Laurie started her MedVet career in 2021 as the first Veterinary Social Worker at MedVet based in Chicago. She was promoted to Director of Social work in 2023. In her role, Laurie oversees programs that provide compassionate, evidence-based support for the human family members of MedVet patients.
Prior to MedVet, Laurie led outreach and animal welfare policy efforts at PAWS Chicago and Humane World for Animals. She received her master’s degree in social work administration from the University of Chicago and her bachelor’s degree in corporate communication from Pennsylvania State University. She also completed her postgraduate certificate in Veterinary Social Work from University of Tennessee. She now co-facilitates learning sessions for students enrolled in that program.
Outside of MedVet, Laurie enjoys spending time with her husband, cats, and dogs. Laurie is a certified yoga instructor, avid video gamer, and bird watcher.
