Kathy Wright, DVM, Diplomate, ACVIM (Cardiology and Small Animal Internal Medicine), is a Board-certified Veterinary Cardiologist at MedVet Cincinnati, where she has been part of the medical team since 2010.
Since becoming a board-certified Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Cardiology and Internal Medicine), Dr. Wright has become well known for her study of the diagnosis and treatment of arrhythmias in companion animals. She was the first veterinarian in the country to adapt radiofrequency catheter ablation to dogs. She is also one of a handful of veterinary specialists in the United States and Canada to be board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Cardiology.
Dr. Kathy Wright earned her Bachelor of Science degree and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Michigan State University. Following her graduation from veterinary school, she completed a yearlong internship in small animal medicine and surgery at North Carolina State University, a yearlong internship at the University of Tennessee, and a three-year residency in cardiology at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She also completed a cardiology fellowship at The Ohio State University and a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Cardiac Rhythm Disturbances at The University of Alabama-Birmingham.
Dr. Kathy Wright is a contributing author for several veterinary textbooks and a reviewer for the Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine, the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Journal of Veterinary Cardiology, and the Australian Veterinary Journal. Her work has been widely published. She is an active advocate of continued education for veterinary professionals and lectures nationally on small animal cardiology topics including veterinary arrhythmias, congenital heart disease, cardiac electrophysiology, and catheter ablation. She has been awarded several grants for her clinical research in veterinary cardiology and comparative companion animal-pediatric congenital heart disease.
Although Dr. Wright maintains an interest in all aspects of small animal cardiology, she has a particular interest in arrhythmias, cardiac electrophysiology, and radiofrequency catheter ablation. She is passionate about delivering the best care to her patients. Dr. Wright recalls wanting to be a veterinarian since she was five years old. Her desire to become a cardiologist was spurred by the death of her beloved first dog, Princess, from congestive heart failure. When not treating patients, Dr. Wright enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons.
