Kate Spies, DVM, MS, is Limited to the Practice of Surgery at WestVet Meridian, where she has been a part of the team since 2024.
Dr. Spies earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a minor in pre-medical studies from the University of Maine and received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She completed a rotating internship in medicine and surgery at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University, followed by a surgical internship at WestVet Boise. She then completed her residency in surgery at Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine, where she also earned a master’s degree with a thesis focused on clinical outcomes in dogs with extrahepatic portosystemic shunts.
Dr. Spies has authored numerous publications covering a range of topics, including clinical outcomes in veterinary surgery, the effects of diet on gastrointestinal health in cats, and undergraduate research in the veterinary profession. Her contributions reflect her commitment to advancing knowledge and practice in veterinary medicine.
Dr. Spies maintains a special interest in surgical oncology and traumatology. One of her favorite aspects of veterinary medicine is collaborating with team members and families to provide attentive, compassion-driven care.
Outside of the profession, Dr. Kate Spies enjoys backpacking, hiking, and painting.
