Jusmeen Sarkar, DVM, MS, Diplomate, ACVAA, CVA, is a Board-certified Specialist in Veterinary Anesthesia & Analgesia at MedVet Chicago where she has been a part of the team since 2019.
Dr. Sarkar attended the University of Rochester where she earned two Bachelor of Arts degrees in Biology and Anthropology. She then earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. Following earning her veterinary degree, Dr. Sarkar completed a rotating medicine and surgery internship at Fifth Avenue Veterinary Specialists and a veterinary anesthesia & analgesia residency at Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Jusmeen Sarkar has authored and co-authored several articles, including “Intravenous Tramadol: Effects, Nociceptive Properties, and Pharmacokinetics in Horses,” published in Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia. She has also written a chapter on anesthesia and infectious disease in “Canine and Feline Anesthesia and Co-Existing Disease, 1st edition.”
Dr. Sarkar maintains a special interest in several aspects of anesthesia & analgesia, including pain management, locoregional anesthesia & analgesia, non-pharmacologic therapies for pain and rehabilitation, acupuncture, technician training, patient safety, respiratory physiology, critical care sedation, and feline medicine. Dr. Sarkar’s favorite part of practicing veterinary medicine is recognizing and respecting the scope of its impact on the world.
Dr. Sarkar is very interested in traditional Chinese medicine and the way it complements the management of pain, anxiety, and other conditions. She became a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist after completing coursework and training at Chi University.
When she isn’t practicing veterinary medicine, Dr. Sarkar enjoys cooking, baking, crafting, gardening, and painting.
