John C. Chandler, DVM, MS, Diplomate, ACVS-SA, is a Board-certified Veterinary Surgeon. Dr. Chandler joined WestVet Boise in 2005, where he provided compassionate, comprehensive surgical care for pets until he transitioned to the WestVet Meridian team in 2023, establishing a Surgery specialty at our hospital.
Dr. Chandler’s journey into the veterinary profession began with his first job as a veterinary assistant. His experience and love for animals inspired him to earn a Bachelor of Science degree, a Master of Science degree, and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Colorado State University. He completed a small animal rotating medicine and surgery internship at Washington State University and a surgery internship at Gulf Coast Veterinary Surgery. Dr. Chandler completed his surgery residency at Colorado State University.
Dr. Chandler is passionate about veterinary education. He has authored several abstracts and peer-reviewed publications on topics including postoperative anti-arrhythmic therapy, feline orthopedics, gastrointestinal conditions, orthopedic fixation, Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO), and stifle arthroscopy. Dr. Chandler has also served as a peer reviewer for the American Journal of Veterinary Research, presented work at the Veterinary Orthopedic Society (VOS) conference and the Association for Veterinary Orthopedic and Research Education (AVORE) meeting, and been an invited presenter on stifle arthroscopy at the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) Surgery Summit. In addition to attending several veterinary surgery conferences each year, Dr. Chandler has presented countless hours of continuing education lectures at conferences across the nation. Under his tutelage as the local program director of the Washington State University & WestVet Collaborative Residency Training Program and the Internship Director of WestVet Rotating and Specialty Surgical Internships, over 100 veterinarians have trained under Dr. Chandler and then continued their careers in specialty residencies, general practice, or emergency medicine.
When not training future veterinarians or helping pets feel better, Dr. John Chandler enjoys being outdoors camping or skiing. Dr. Chandler is also an avid fan of all levels of baseball.
