Darius J. Statham, DVM, is a Surgery Specialty Intern at MedVet New Orleans.
Dr. Statham earned his Bachelor of Science in Animal Science with a concentration in Pre-Veterinary Medicine from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana. He then went on to earn his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Prior to joining MedVet, he completed a rotating medicine and surgery internship at BluePearl Pet Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. He is currently completing his surgery internship at Louisiana State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Dr. Statham finds great fulfillment in advocating for and providing high-quality care to patients who cannot speak for themselves. He especially enjoys caring for sick or lame patients and watching their progress as they recover and return home healthy and comfortable. He also values educating and guiding pet owners, helping them become actively involved in their pets’ care, as their participation is an essential part of a successful recovery.
During veterinary school, Dr. Statham co-founded an affinity group dedicated to mentoring and guiding youth and prospective students as they navigated their educational and career paths. Outside of work, he enjoys spending quality time with friends through game nights, movie nights, karaoke, and casual get-togethers. He also values self-care, maintaining an active lifestyle through fitness, and exploring various forms of fine arts.
