Brian Jefferson, DVM, is an Emergency Medicine Veterinarian at MedVet Columbus and the leader of the Central Ohio Emergency Departments. He has been part of the emergency team since 1997. Dr. Jefferson attended Miami University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree and The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine where he earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. Following his graduation from veterinary school, Dr. Jefferson completed a yearlong internship in small animal medicine and surgery at MedVet Columbus.
Dr. Jefferson’s first experience with MedVet was during veterinary school when his 8-year-old Labrador Retriever, Nadia, suddenly fell ill. She was taken to MedVet, and Dr. Jefferson was immediately impressed by the keen skill and collaboration that the MedVet team brought to his dog’s care. Although Nadia was diagnosed with Lymphoma, she lived another two years thanks to her MedVet care team’s dedication and talent.
Through this experience, Dr. Jefferson gained great respect for the multi-disciplinary approach and compassion at MedVet. After completing his internship, he joined as an emergency veterinarian. Today, Dr. Jefferson leads the Emergency Department with a focus to provide an ever-improving experience for each client, patient, and referring veterinarian.
Dr. Brian Jefferson enjoys all aspects of small animal emergency medicine and appreciates how every patient’s condition is unique, interesting, and challenging in its own way. He enjoys helping save lives and protect the bond between pet and person as long as possible. Dr. Jefferson’s commitment to make every client an informed participant in their pet’s care is a vital aspect of his professional philosophy. When not treating patients, Dr. Jefferson enjoys music, biking, hiking, and having fun with his kids.
