Alexis Cottingham, DVM, is a veterinarian who is residency trained in Veterinary Internal Medicine. She joined the WestVet team in 2018 and the WestVet Meridian team in 2023.
Dr. Cottingham grew up in Great Falls, MT. In high school, she enjoyed playing basketball and volleyball. She also did the shot put and discus on the track team, which she continued into college at Montana State University.
Following earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Montana State University, Dr. Alexis Cottingham entered the veterinary technician world. She worked for a general practice, a specialty hospital, and taught veterinary assistant classes at the Pima Medical Institute in Arizona. After working as a veterinary technician for several years, she decided to go to veterinary school. Dr. Cottingham completed her clinical training at the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in Basseterre, Saint Kitts & Nevis, West Indies, and spent her fourth year at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine. She remained in Minnesota where she completed a rotating internship before completing an internal medicine residency at the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Cottingham has a special interest in immune-mediated disease and diabetes. She moved to Boise with her husband and four dogs in 2017. They enjoy hiking, biking, fishing (fly and ice), and boating on rivers and reservoirs. She and her husband love to ride their Indian Motorcycle and explore the beautiful landscape of Idaho.
