Mitchell Oakes, DVM, PhD, is an Emergency Medicine Veterinarian at MedVet Akron and MedVet Cleveland, where he began caring for patients in 2025.
Dr. Mitchell Oakes earned a Bachelor of Science degree from The University of Toledo and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He also earned a PhD in molecular and cellular biology from The University of Toledo, during which he authored multiple peer-reviewed publications in the Journal of Neuroscience exploring the neurobiology of cannabinoids.
Dr. Oakes’ special interests include internal medicine, pathology, and radiology. His favorite part of the veterinary profession is partnering with pet families through education and support, and watching his patients improve under compassionate care.
When not caring for patients, Dr. Mitchell Oakes enjoys spending time with his wife, step-daughter, and their pets. He is also an avid motocross enthusiast who dedicates much of his free time to training and racing.
