Jim Whitehead, DVM, DACVIM (SAIM)

Jim Whitehead, DVM, Diplomate, ACVIM (SAIM), is the Medical Director of MedVet Atlanta, where he has been part of the team since 2025.

Dr. Jim Whitehead earned a Bachelor of Science degree in animal science from Mississippi State University before going on to earn his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Mississippi State College of Veterinary Medicine. He then completed a rotating medicine and surgery internship at Mississippi State, followed by an internal medicine internship at Memphis Veterinary Specialists. Dr. Whitehead went on to complete a residency in internal medicine at Michigan Veterinary Specialists.

As a Board-Certified Small Animal Internal Medicine Specialist, Dr. Whitehead has special interests in non-invasive diagnostics, including ultrasound and endoscopy. As a medical leader, he is dedicated to supporting his hospital team so they can provide exceptional care to patients and clients. He also values strong collaboration with referring veterinarians and enjoys building those partnerships. In addition, Dr. Whitehead is passionate about professional service and has volunteered on at least one American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) committee every year since 2016.

Dr. Whitehead’s favorite part of the veterinary profession is solving problems and creating solutions that help others—whether patients, clients, or fellow veterinarians. He believes that communication and collaboration among all members of the hospital team are essential to providing excellent patient care.

When not caring for patients, Dr. Jim Whitehead enjoys spending time with his wife, Crystal, their three children—Elon, Luke, and Anna—and their animals, which include three dogs, two cats, and a horse. His family is active in their local saddle club, where his oldest and youngest participate in timed riding events such as barrel racing. He also enjoys cooking for his family and is always open to trying new recipes and foods.
