Cynthia Spafford, DVM

Emergency Medicine Veterinarian

Cynthia Spafford, DVM, is an Emergency Medicine Veterinarian at MedVet Northern Virginia, where she began caring for patients in 2025.

Dr. Cynthia Spafford earned a Bachelor of Science degree in cellular, molecular, and physiological biology from Christopher Newport University. She went on to receive her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Royal Veterinary College in London.

Dr. Spafford has had a passion for emergency medicine since her early days as a veterinary assistant at an emergency veterinary hospital. That interest only deepened during veterinary school, where she also developed a strong curiosity for neurology, especially where it overlaps with urgent care. She thrives in the fast-paced environment of emergency medicine and enjoys the challenge of uncovering what’s wrong when patients can’t tell us themselves. For her, every patient is unique, and finding the answers through subtle symptoms, diagnostic results, and collaboration with families is both intellectually fulfilling and emotionally rewarding.

Outside of the hospital, Dr. Cynthia Spafford enjoys baking elaborate desserts—especially cakes, cinnamon rolls, cookies, and cupcakes—and preparing festive meals during the holidays. She’s a Nationals baseball fan and loves getting outdoors to hike or horseback ride. When she has time to slow down, she loves diving into a good book. Dr. Spafford shares her life with her chocolate Havanese, Ellie, who brings joy to her every day.
